Authority adds $14 million to current year's budget

After deciding that previous cuts had gone too far, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority on Tuesday added $14 million to the current year's budget.

Room tax revenues have run $4 million better than expected when the $210.6 million budget for the year was adopted in the spring, and the carryover surplus came in $10 million higher than expected.

Of the funds, $5.1 million will be rolled into next year's budget, $5 million added to advertising and $2.4 million tagged for boosting the payroll. A salary freeze was imposed in September 2008 for nonunion employees and 101 positions -- about 21 percent of the work force -- have been left unfilled as people left
