Allegiant adding nonstop Las Vegas-Indianapolis service

In a bid to grow its presence in Indianapolis, Allegiant Air has added nonstop flights to and from McCarran International Airport.

The Las Vegas-based air carrier, a subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Co., announced Friday that it will have three round trips a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between Las Vegas and Indianapolis.

Flights will leave McCarran at 10 a.m., and arrive at 4:30 p.m. Return flights leave Indianapolis International Airport at 4:15 p.m., arriving in Las Vegas at 5:15 p.m., local time.

With the addition of the Las Vegas route, Allegiant will serve five cities from Indianapolis. By summer, that will expand to seven with seasonal flights planned to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Allegiant is introducing the route with $111 one-way fares that must be purchased by Friday for travel by Nov. 3.

Allegiant will compete on the route with Southwest Airlines, which has two daily round trips between Las Vegas and Indianapolis. It’s an unusual move for Allegiant to go head-to-head with Southwest, but Allegiant has identified Indianapolis and Cincinnati as expansion opportunities.

Allegiant stock closed down 92 cents a share, 0.5 percent, to $183.63 on light trading Friday.
