NV Energy Foundation donates $1.2 million in grants to nonprofits

The NV Energy Foundation contributed $1.2 million to 37 nonprofit organizations statewide during the second quarter of 2014.

Grants were given to 17 Southern Nevada organizations, including Three Square Food Bank, United Way of Southern Nevada–Project Reach, Spread the Word Nevada, the Las Vegas Veteran’s Memorial and Friends of Nevada Wilderness. Grants were given to 20 Northern Nevada organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Nevada Journeys, KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada.

NV Energy Foundation’s focus is on education, the environment, youth development, arts and multicultural outreach, and health and human services. The second-quarter contributions included multiyear commitments.

Bank of Nevada donates funds for program at The Delta Academy

Bank of Nevada continues its commitment to serve the people of Nevada by donating funds to purchase a comprehensive literacy program at The Delta Academy.

“Students attending The Delta Academy are some of the most at-risk students in Southern Nevada,” said Kyle Konold, executive director of The Delta Academy. “Bank of Nevada’s generous donation will allow us to purchase books for our comprehensive literacy program. In addition to their generous donation, Bank of Nevada is introducing us to civic-minded companies to create community partnerships so we may expand our educational and vocational programs. Our goal is to prepare our students to vocationally fulfill the needs of our community. ”

Bank of America hosts valleywide back-to-school drive during August

Bank of America is hosting a valleywide school drive during the month of August. The drive, which launched Aug. 1 and will continue until Aug. 28, will benefit Sandy Miller Elementary School and Monaco Middle School. To donate, look for the collection receptacles stationed at Bank of America banking centers throughout Southern Nevada.

Fifteen Nevada broadcast students earn scholarships from association

Fifteen Nevada broadcast students were awarded with scholarships at the Nevada Broadcasters Association’s 19th annual gala.

“The students who receive these scholarships are the future of broadcasting in the state,” said Bob Fisher, CEO of the Nevada Broadcasters Association. “The scholarship is not only to help them financially with their educations, but to provide them a foot in the door and valuable contacts in order to further their careers.”

Established in 1961, the Nevada Broadcasters Association is dedicated to protecting, promoting, enhancing and strengthening Nevada’s broadcast industry to more effectively serve the public.

Golf classic raises over $131,000 for Center for Responsible Gaming

The 16th Annual AGEM/AGA Golf Classic presented by JCM Global raised more than $131,000 to support the National Center for Responsible Gaming’s important research.

With support from 16 sponsors and a total of 136 players, the event was one of the most successful in the tournament’s 16-year history.

To date, the event has raised nearly $1.4 million in support of the responsible gaming center.

Five students receive Sons of

Norway Lodge scholarships

Five Clark County students with Norwegian ancestry have been awarded $3,100 in scholarships by the Vegas Viking Lodge of the Sons of Norway.

Sean Cortney, Amanda Fehr, Skylar Feldman, Nathan Gifford and Jessica Reed were chosen for their GPA, written essays on their Norwegian roots, extracurricular activities and financial need.

PENTA raises $120,000 for local charities with golf tournament

The PENTA Building Group raised $120,000 for local nonprofit organizations during its 10th annual Charity Golf Classic.

Tournament participants raised funds through sponsorships and donations to support the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, the Women’s Development Center and the Wounded Warrior Project. PENTA has hosted its annual golf tournament for 10 years, raising a total of nearly $1 million for local nonprofit groups.

The company has supported the NCCF and WDC through its annual golf tournament every year since the event’s inception.

The WDC provides a broad range of housing services for homeless and low-income community members, including transitional housing and affordable rental programs.

The NCCF provides a wide variety of free, local support services for critically ill children and their families.

This is the first year PENTA is also supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, which offers programs and services to meet the needs of injured military service members.

Henderson Chamber of Commerce donates to Nevada State College

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce presented Nevada State College with a check for $4,975 — proceeds from the 23rd annual Swing for Success Golf Tournament.

The money will be used to supplement materials in classrooms, labs and libraries as well as scholarships.

“A top higher education system is critical to the success of any community — both for economic development and workforce development reasons,” said Scott Muelrath, president and CEO of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. “Therefore, it’s important to us as a business community to do everything we can to support such institutions as Nevada State College.”

Riviera Hotel partners with Three Square food bank

Riviera Hotel &Casino is partnering with Three Square food bank to help feed the hungry during Fall Las Vegas Restaurant Week.

Beginning Aug. 22, a portion of the proceeds from the new Three Square Menu at R Steak &Seafood Restaurant will be donated to Southern Nevada’s only food bank to help feed thousands of residents in valley.
