Henderson Chamber hosts business awards event

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce and the city of Henderson’s Economic Development/Redevelopment division hosted Henderson’s 15th annual Economic Development and Small Business Awards on Nov. 13 at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas.

Economic development awards, which recognize significant contributions and investments in Henderson in the last 12 months, went to BarclaycardUS for Economic Development Project of the Year; Vadatech as Expansion Project of the Year; Cowabunga Bay as Redevelopment Project of the Year; Windom Kimsey as Private Sector Person of the Year, and Terry Culp, deputy director of Nevada Industry Excellence, as O’Callaghan Public Sector Person of the Year.

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce honored Darlene Magolski, business development manager at Manpower Inc. of Southern Nevada, with the Ambassador of the Year Award; Nevada State High School Chief Operating Officer John Hawk received the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Board Member of the Year Award; Outstanding Customer Service Award went to Desert Radiologists and Mikel’s Fine Art Photography.

The Josh Stevens Foundation received the Outstanding Nonprofit Award; The Omelet House Family Restaurant received the All in the Family Award; The Las Vegas Distillery received the Innovation Award; Galaxy Luxury Theatres received the Business on the Rise Award; Opportunity Village took the Green Award; and Emerald Island Casino owner Tim Brooks received the Noble Award, named for Laird Noble Sanders, one of the Henderson Chamber’s most notable champions.

Business plan contest opens

Aspiring entrepreneurs have until Jan. 2 to submit their business ideas to the 2015 Dominic Anthony Marrocco Southern Nevada Business Plan Competition. The sixth annual contest aims to identify and grow the best new-business idea in Southern Nevada. Winners will receive more than $80,000 in cash and prizes to help launch their business ventures.

The Southern Nevada Business Plan Competition is a collaboration between the UNLV Center for Entrepreneurship in the Lee Business School and the Las Vegas Business Press.

Fashion Council plan event

The Las Vegas Fashion Council will host the Little Black Dress Event benefiting Dress for Success Southern Nevada on from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Stitch Factory, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Suite 120.

Guests will enjoy a little black dress competition, featuring designs from students at The Art Institute. The competition will provide a scholarship for the winning student design. Additional fashions will be presented by Vasari Boutique and modeled by talent from BESTAgency. The event will also include a cocktail reception and raffle prizes.

Guest voting will decide the Little Black Dress Contest winner. Guests will vote for their favorite designer by purchasing a special “vote ticket” for $5. Votes will be tallied through tickets sold; the student with the most votes will get a scholarship toward tuition.

The event will raise money and awareness for the Las Vegas Fashion Council, a nonprofit trade association that includes fashion professionals, students, community leaders, philanthropists and organizations wishing to expand the Las Vegas economy through fashion.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to Dress for Success Southern Nevada, which helps disadvantaged women find employment by providing them with professional wardrobes and career development tools.

Tickets are a $50 minimum donation and $35 for students with valid identification. Tickets can be purchased at www.lasvegasfashioncouncil.com/little-black-dress-event. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Webinar targets family business
