College prep program tops goal needed for computer lab

Scholars Working OverTime, a college-prep program for middle school students in east Las Vegas, reached and exceeded its goal of raising $35,000 to build a computer lab.

Under the direction of teacher Rachel Warbelow, the students were learning computer coding without the aid of computers. Because they did not have access to computers, they were writing out the programming languages HTML, CSS, JavaScript and others by hand.

An Indiegogo campaign in October raised $40,032, which will allow additional computers and desks to be bought. The computers have been ordered and will be delivered Nov. 16.
