Energy aid for seniors available Saturday at Cashman Center
Las Vegas area seniors who want to learn how to save money on their electric bills can meet Saturday with NV Energy officials at the annual Senior Energy Assistance Expo at the Cashman Center.
The event is free and runs from 8 a.m. to noon at the center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Hall A.
The event for seniors 62 or older provides an opportunity to apply for the utility’s energy aid program, called Project REACH, make payment arrangements and learn about other services that could help them save money.
Last year NV Energy awarded $344,000 in Project REACH aid to more than 1,212 customers during the Senior Expo. Project REACH helps eligible seniors with aid for past-due balances.
Qualifying seniors may receive up to $350 in energy aid through Project REACH as a bill credit. Payment arrangements and additional NV Energy services will also be available.
The NV Energy Foundation funds Project REACH, an energy aid program administered by United Way of Southern Nevada.
Customers must bring a valid Nevada driver’s license or Nevada State ID, past-due NV Energy electric bill and proof of income or pending income. Anyone who has received energy aid within the previous 12 months is not eligible to receive help but can take advantage of other resources offered at the event.
Other groups that will be offering services to seniors at the expo include Southwest Gas, CenturyLink, the Nevada Welfare Division and the Social Security Administration.
