In a push to stimulate the local economy, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce released its Chamber Membership Rewards Card three days before Black Friday.
Employees of chamber-member businesses received the card, which entitles holders to about 125 discounts and offers. The card was designed to encourage consumers to buy locally during the holiday shopping season.
Palms' owner George Maloof passed the cards out to employees Tuesday morning in an effort to spread the word about the program.
"I think it's very timely," Maloof said. "I think it'd be great if people take advantage of it."
Chamber spokeswoman Cara Roberts said all employees of chamber-member businesses should have a rewards card in their hands by mid-December, which would place about 250,000 cards in the marketplace. There is no expiration on the card as long as members keep offering discounts.
"It's important for all of us to support our local economy whenever possible," Roberts said.
Offers are posted on the chamber's website, lvchamber.com/discounts, with no charge to businesses. Listed specials include discounted room rates at the Palms and price cuts at the buffet and spa. Fox Marketing and Print Group posted discounts on business and tax forms, and Radiant Smiles is offering free teeth whitening for chamber members who use the card when they come in for an exam, X-ray and cleaning.
Chamber members interested in submitting a discount offer should visit the website. Nonchamber-member businesses also can honor the card.
"That's great, free marketing for a local business," Roberts said.
