Newest ‘Geekmobile’ premieres in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is among the first market in the country to see Best Buy’s newest “Geekmobile.”

The consumer electronic company announced that their Geek Squad, or technical support agents, will be switching from Volkswagen Beetles, which they’ve driven since 2004, to Toyota Prius C’s.

The “Geekmobile” hit Las Vegas streets for the first time Monday.

Their new ride will result in better fuel efficiency and help Best Buy cut their carbon emissions by 50 percent. The company said it is committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2020.

In addition to a brand new ride, Best Buy’s Geek Squad also boasts a new logo, which is meant to be sleeker and easier to read on small screens including smartphones and watches as well as on the side of a “Geekmobile” that’s zipping by.

Geek Squad first launched more than 20 years ago and was dedicated solely to repairing personal computers. It’s since grown into a national organization made up of more than 20,000 agents who make daily house calls.

“Today’s Geek Squad Agent is more likely to help a client with a new home theater experience, optimizing their Wi-Fi or smart security solution than the family computer,” Geek Squad Chief Inspector Nate Bauer said in a statement.
