Deveraux adds magic, mystery to 'Heartwishes'

The town of Edilean is once again a magnet for trouble and love, with a mystery at hand, a touch of magic and some scheming on the part of a jewel thief.

Gemma Ranford’s quest to find her dream job takes her to the small but historically rich town. She's vying for the opportunity to work for the Frazier family, sorting out and recounting their history. As a scholar, it's the perfect job. What she doesn't realize is that more than one dream is about to come true.

It's not long before Gemma meets Colin Frazier, the town sheriff, and falls head over heels in love. There are complications along the way, but Gemma and Colin are determined to make their relationship work.

While organizing the Frazier papers, Gemma runs across some great family stories, the most intriguing one being about the Heartwishes Stone, which according to legend grants wishes for any Frazier.

Wishes made by Colin and Gemma’s friends start coming true, to their delight. But when someone seems to be intent on stealing the stone, Gemma and Colin become determined to catch a master criminal.

”Heartwishes” is the fifth book in best-selling author Jude Deveraux’s delightful Edilean series, and in my opinion, is the best so far. It’s a treat to revisit the characters who inhabit the unique town. However, since this is an ongoing series, it does help to have read the previous books.

The introduction of new characters promises future stories, making this a series to collect, enjoy and anticipate. The touch of magic that Deveraux includes, along with her trademark romance, makes this book a perfect grown-up fairy tale.
