REDEEM, NOT DREAM
The U.S. basketball team was impressive in winning a gold medal Sunday, beating Spain 118-107. But no matter how well the Americans played and acted here in Beijing, there remains just one Dream Team.
Just ask Spain forward Pau Gasol.
"That team was something special, something unique,” he said of the 1992 U.S. Olympic champion. "There might be teams that are close like this one today, but none exactly like it. The (Dream Team) changed a lot of things in basketball and made a lot of young players want to dedicate themselves to this sport.
"This (current) U.S. team is very good, too, and plays at a very high level. They are close to that (’92) team, but I just don’t think we will ever see anything like it again."
