Tough draw for Michael Hunter

If Michael Hunter is going to medal at the London Olympics, the Las Vegas heavyweight will certainly have earned it.

The boxing tournament draw has been announced and Hunter opens his medal pursuit on Wednesday afternoon in the Round of 16 against Artur Beterbiev of Russia.

The winner then gets top-seeded Oleksandr Usyk of the Ukraine in one quarterfinal on Aug. 5.

Should he advance past the opening round, Hunter might have a bit of an edge against Usyk, whose favorite hobby is to read and write poetry.

You have to think that by coming to the homeland of Blake and Byron and Hardy, the big ol’ Ukrainian has softened up a bit.

That is, if Beterbiev doesn’t go all Ivan Drago on Hunter come Wednesday.
