Downtown Las Vegas Events Center announces first show

The new Downtown Las Vegas Events Center is pining for a “Safe and Sound” opening.

The 15,000-capacity outdoor venue has announced its first concert, electro pop group Capital Cities, whose aforementioned hit has been a radio staple over the past year.

They perform Sept. 20, with Joywave.

As the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Mike Weatherford first reported in May, the Events Center is located at the site of the old Clark County Courthouse at 200 S. Third St. and is operated by the owners of the D Las Vegas.

Capital Cities is an interesting choice for the venue’s first show, seeing as how this will be the third time the group has played Las Vegas this year following a performance at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in February and a return to The Cosmo as the headliner of “Our Big Concert” at the Boulevard Pool in May, which drew a crowd of 2,300.

They also played the Life Is Beautiful festival last October.

General admission tickets are $25 and VIP tickets are $35 and can be purchased at www.dlvec.com.
