A humbling, if not humiliating, experience at the fun race

It's been years, nay decades, since I've been a runner, but the offer to Run Away with Cirque du Soleil seemed doable, even desirable.

While I wasn't certain I was 5K material, I was confident the 1-mile fun run was within my realm of expertise. This past Saturday, my friends and I enjoyed a sense of community at the Springs Preserve, because Cirque du Soleil sponsored a fundraiser that raised $46,000 and drew 1,159 people to a place that Mayor Oscar Goodman compares to New York's Central Park.

Check out my column Thursday and the photos below. May I suggest that if you want to look slim next to any Cirque du Soleil performer, you look for that chubby clown from "Mystere" and stand next to that performer.

Learn from my mistakes. Don't pick the sleekist performers for a photo op. Makes you look big.
