If irony were a bell, it would be ringing

While seeking debt forgiveness for its corporate shortcomings, Harrah’s has no intention of forgiving the debts of fallen high roller Terry Watanabe of Nebraska. In fact, it has used Clark County’s dubious and constitutionally questionable practice of having the District Attorney play debt-collector, turning a civil arrangement into a criminal act.

Watanabe, a desperate man, is now suing Harrah’s for plying him with alcohol and prescription painkillers while prying his fortune from his
fingers. It’s a course other high rollers have taken that usually leads nowhere. But it will be fascinating to see how far he gets.
