Cruz uses all the right tools

Cruz Pedregon owns his Funny Car team, drives his Funny Car and is one of only a few who also do most of the tuning on their 8,000-horsepower engines.

And no one did any of those jobs better than Pedregon on Friday.

The two-time world champion holds the provisional pole after Friday’s two qualifying sessions in the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

If his time holds up after Saturday’s two sessions, it will be Pedregon’s second pole in three events on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series tour.

Pedregon’s work, however, didn’t begin with Friday’s opening day.

As part of his commitment to sponsor Snap-On Tools, Pedregon arrived in Las Vegas early so he could spend a day riding along with Las Vegas franchisee Harold Moore in one of Snap-On’s mobile tool stores.

They made a prolonged stop at Wally's Honda where Pedregon signed autographs for about 50 customers.

A busy day for the 1992 and 2008 season champion who has won two titles (2006, 2008) at Las Vegas.

Brother Tony gets sponsor

More good news for the Pedregon brothers came on Wednesday when Tony announced Armored AutoGroup (owner of STP and Armor All brands) will sponsor his Funny Car under a multi-year agreement.

The 2003 and 2007 NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Champion, is qualified sixth at Las Vegas. He owns three Las Vegas titles.
