IPhone brings you Bing
In the continuing saga of unlikely bedfellows, Apple iPhone users can now add the Bing search engine application to their mobile repertoires. Bing, the newest entry into the search engine field, is a product of software powerhouse Microsoft Corp.
The easiest way to get the download is by searching for "Microsoft" in the applications store on your iPhone or iPod Touch or in the iTunes store on your computer. The free application downloads quickly and users of Bing on their computers will recognize the interface, with one major addition — voice search. Simply click the microphone icon in the upper-right corner and speak your search terms. The vocal search will come in handy in situations that make using the touch screen less than optimal, like when you're wearing gloves.
I found the search return pages, including the maps, to be thorough; links to businesses, news items, images and suggestions fell into place on the scrollable iPhone screen.
By offering Bing, Apple gives its customers an alternative to Google. Both companies are vying for an advantage in the mobile advertising market. And there have been many recent-day rumors about a soon-to-be-announced Google phone the company will offer directly to consumers, bypassing mobile phone carriers.
