A week of NASCAR left my typing fingers and brain cramped so I took last week off from blogging.
But we’re back at it at Heavy Pedal getting ready for the NHRA pro tour’s visit April 1-3 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Big news is the Review-Journal will publish a special tabloid on the Thursday before the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals.
That’s a first for our paper and looking forward to blending rich Southern Nevada drag racing history with the 60th anniversary of NHRA.
IndyCar is back
The IndyCar Series spent Monday testing at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama for its March 27 opener at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Other news: IndyCar will use side-by-side restarts this season ... A last-minute deal has been reached to keep Firestone as the tire supplier through 2013. ... The series is limiting starting fields to 26 cars except for the Indy 500 and the Izod IndyCar World Championship finale held Oct. 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The drags almost are back
Kurt Busch garnered the most positive publicity for drag racing in recent memory. He qualified for Sunday’s Gatornationals eliminations in Gainesville, Fla., and had a respectable run in a first-round loss to Erica Enders.
Busch’s enthusiasm for drag racing took the sport beyond the straight-line community.
He will consider racing next in the July 22-24 NHRA Mile-High Nationals at Morrison, Colo., an off weekend for Sprint Cup.
No video block last week
Sorry there wasn’t a third installment of the Heavy Pedal video blog. Our videographer Justin Yurkanin was unable to film it. His excuse: wife was in labor. I offered to shoot it from the delivery room but he wasn’t interested.
The baby was delivered Thursday.
