Analyst: NV House seats not among most competitive

Nevada's House of Representatives seats aren't among the nation's most competitive for 2010 at this early juncture, according to Washington political analyst Stuart Rothenberg, whose House outlook just came out.

Two of Nevada's three House districts saw competitive races in 2008. CD3, where Democrat Dina Titus ousted Republican Jon Porter, was one of the most competitive races in the country, and CD2, where Republican Dean Heller beat back a repeat challenge from Democrat Jill Derby, also saw a spirited contest.

So far, no one has stepped up to challenge Titus or Heller, although Republicans say putting up a strong fight in CD3 is one of their top priorities in 2010. For that reason, neither race is on the list of the top 33 most competitive races according to the Rothenberg Political Report.

Here's the report's analysis of those two districts:

NV 2 ( Heller, R).  Democrats hope that Dean Heller runs statewide, creating an open seat. Otherwise, this district likely won’t see an interesting Congressional contest unless Heller leaves it.

NV 3 (Titus, D). Former state Sen. Dina Titus knocked off incumbent Jon Porter (R) by six points. While recent trends have turned this pure toss-up district into one that leans Democratic, Titus surely can’t take her reelection for granted. The GOP will look for a strong challenger here.
