Ensign on Kagan: "Will thoroughly review her background and record"

Sen. John Ensign put out the following statement today in reaction to

Solicitor General Elena Kagan's nomination to join the U.S. Supreme Court

"I congratulate Ms. Kagan on her nomination to the nation's highest court. As the Senate proceeds with this lifetime appointment, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that Ms. Kagan is treated fairly, just as we did with Justice Sotomayor. When considering her nomination, I will thoroughly review her background and record, including her brief litigation experience. I believe that the role of a Supreme Court Justice is to rule according to the text of the Constitution, not an interpretation of those words according to a political or personal agenda, and I look forward to seeing if Ms. Kagan shares this view."
