The UNLV football team held their banquet on Sunday, December 15 at the South Point hotel. I was lucky enough to get an invite from my friend, Ryan Pulliam, to sit at his table. It was definitely an upbeat atmosphere with many football supporters, players, coaches and their families in attendance. I was happy to finally meet Tim Cornett and Devante Davis and they were a little surprised when I told them I had been going to Rebel football games for over 25 years. We talked about the upcoming bowl game and I told them not to eat too much of their mama's home cooking when they were home for Christmas :)
The food was great and after we ate, we watched Coack Hauck give out some awards to well deserving players, voted on by their teammates.
Coach Hauck spoke for a few minutes about what a special group of guys he has coached this year, and that this is just the beginning of bowl trips for UNLV football. He also mentioned how happy everyone is to be playing on New Year's Day, the biggest day for college football bowls. All the players received a commemorative football with a picture of the Fremont Cannon and the score of the UNLV/UNR game on it. Coach Hauck gave his game ball to his wife and thanked her for all her continued support. Good move, Coach!
I was able to get a few pictures to share with you. I'm looking forward to seeing the Rebels play one more time on January 1, 2014 and will have a blog for you when I return from Dallas.
The Runnin' Rebel basketball team played at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah on Saturday evening. There were probably 2000 Rebel fans in attendance and a bunch of them met up with us at the Pizza Factory before the game, taking over their back room. It's always fun to make a road trip, share some good stories with old and new friends and then get the win. Rebels were able to get some of the non-starters some time on the court and won the game easily, 73-51. It's funny that most Rebel fans I talked to made sure they either stopped at Cracker Barrel, Chick Fila or both on the drive there or back, 2 favorites we don't have in Vegas. We also stopped to pick up some lottery tickets in Arizona for the Mega Millions, so if you don't hear from me again, you'll know why :)-
The Rebels have four games in Las Vegas over the next week, two at the Thomas & Mack and two at the Orleans Arena. It's going to be a busy week along with last-minute Christmas shopping and wrapping presents and mailing packages. We will somehow squeeze it all in. See you at the Mack on Wednesday.
