For 8 long years, Rebel fans have seen the blue cannon in the end zone of the games, whether in Reno or Las Vegas, and we wondered if our young children would ever know that it was once red for 5 years in a row (2000-2004)!
Finally, we can show them what it looks like in scarlet and gray as the Rebels went up to Reno, played in front of a sold out crowd at Mackay stadium, and beat the Wolfpack, 27-22.
I know here in Vegas we were cheering like crazy while watching the game on espn3.com
. I didn't sit down the entire 2nd half and even did the pushups every time the Rebels scored, just like the band members and National Guard do at every home game. When it was over, there were tears of joy and I think we almost broke Facebook and Twitter with all of our happy posts.
Next order of business for the UNLV Rebels (5-3) is San Jose State (4-3) at home on Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m. Hope to see you all out there to view the RED CANNON and cheer on the team, who with one more win, will be bowl eligible. Way to go Coach Hauck!
Students and Rebel fans, be at the Student Union at 12 Noon on Monday, October 28 to watch the team paint the cannon red!
On October 29, "Behind The Mask" debuts on hulu.com
. It's a documentary featuring our beloved mascot, HEY REB. I can't wait to see the behind the scenes of being Hey Reb by my friend, Jon Jersey Goldman, who was literally "behind the mask" for the last few years.
On October 30, there is a dedication at 3 p.m. in front of the Thomas and Mack for Coach Tarkanian's statue. You can still help contribute here: www.onefortark.com
The first Runnin' Rebel home basketball game is Friday, November 1st against Dixie St. Rebels. This is an exhibition game that starts at 8 p.m. Hope to see you all at some of these great upcoming events. It's always a great day to be a Rebel fan!
Special thanks to Review Journal Photographer, Jason Bean, for providing me with some great photos for the blog.
