Wednesday, October 16, was a special night for this Rebel fan. I was invited to a private event at Born and Raised to honor Coach Jerry Tarkanian and his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Born and Raised is a bar owned by the Godino family who are huge Rebel supporters. Many of you may have watched an away game or two there.
Coach Tarkanian, his son Danny and one of Tark's granddaughters attended the event with about 50 big Rebel fans and friends. After we watched the Hall of Fame induction video from last month, they unveiled a new video produced by Josh Meeter that thanked Coach Tark for all he's done. Of course, it brought tears to my eyes.
A beautiful cake was served, along with some food and drinks. The Godinos also revealed a newly reupholstered chair that is Coach Tark's favorite chair to watch the games in when he comes to B.A. R.
It was great chatting with former Rebels like Anderson Hunt, Coach Dave Rice, Leon Symanski, and other good friends. Thank you DJ Allen and the Godinos, for hosting the wonderful evening.
Thursday, October 17, was significant for all Rebel fans. The annual Scarlet & Gray Showcase was held at the Thomas and Mack. We were able to see the old-timers play, and also checkout the new teams for 2013-2014 for both men's and women's basketball. There was a 3-point contest, men's basketball scrimmage and performances by the Rebel Girls and cheerleaders. Coach Tarkanian was there and had a long line of fans waiting to get his autograph after the event. The team also signed autographs and stayed for over an hour after it ended to sign them. The fans were very thankful. I was excited to see all my friends and the happy smiles knowing college basketball starts in 2 weeks.
