Hello Rebel fans! I hope you're staying warm. Lots of Rebel happenings to catch up on!
Before we all departed for the McKale Center, we did sing the UNLV fight song loud & proud. The arena holds around 14,500 and it was a sold-out white out. You could definitely spot the UNLV fans decked out in their red among the sea of white. The game was close the entire time, with the Rebels giving a great fight, but at the end, they came up short of the win, losing 63-58.
Every Rebel fan I talked to after the game said how classy and nice the Arizona fans were. The Runnin' Rebels gave them a good scare and they knew Arizona snuck out of there with a hard earned W, pushing them into the #1 spot for Monday morning. It was a great experience, besides the loss, meeting very dedicated Arizona fans who appreciated our hard effort, as well as the Rebel fans' support. I can't wait until they come to the Mack next year and I hope Rebel fans show them the same hospitality.
After the game, we met up with some friends to watch a little football, and had a great time hanging out. On the drive home Sunday, we took the "long" way, going through Flagstaff where it was snowing. My young daughter said the snow makes her happy, and I hope that our quick stop at the gas station where she got to play in it was enough to satisfy her for the year. I'm not a big fan of the snow!
Next up for the Runnin' Rebels is Southern Utah University. It's a short 3 hour drive (hopefully no snow) up to Cedar City, Utah and there are still tickets available. I know I will see many of my Rebel friends up there this Saturday. The game starts at 4:00 p.m. PT (which is 5:00 p.m. in Cedar City) so plan your trip accordingly. The game will be shown online via the SUU website.
Rebels will be back home on December 18 and 20 as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic tournament, first 2 rounds. Then to the Orleans for 2 games on December 22 and 23. That will be a busy stretch for the Rebs and their fans.
UNLV received and accepted a bowl bid to the Heart of Dallas bowl played at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Their opponent will be North Texas. That will be like a home game for them, so it's important for any Rebel fans that can make it to get to Dallas and support the football team.
Even though I attend all the home football games, I seldom travel to away games. But I was booking my trip to Dallas as we were still driving home. My son was able to get away from work also, and will be traveling with me. I am so excited to see the Rebs get this well-deserved opportunity to showcase their talents one more time this year and spend New Year's Eve in Dallas with my Rebel friends. The game is on New Year's Day at 9 a.m. PT on ESPNU. You can buy your tickets online at unlvtickets.com. Follow me on twitter @unlvgirl for all the Dallas bowl excitement!
Right after that game ends, you can watch the Runnin' Rebels who open up conference play at Fresno State at 12 Noon on ESPN3.com. It will be a busy day for serious Rebel fans like myself!
I'll include some pics of our trip to Tucson and I hope you enjoy them. GO REBELS!
