Discovery Children’s Museum hosted its third annual Queen of Hearts gala recently at Neiman Marcus at Fashion Show mall to honor a group of women for their commitment to making Southern Nevada a better place to live, work and raise a family.
The women recognized for their selfless giving of time, talent, resources and leadership were Madeleine Andress, Whitney duBoef, Alexandra Epstein, Nancy Houssels, Florence Jameson, Beverly Mathis, Sandy Miller and Meghan Mossler. The Queen in making is 17-year-old Savannah Prenger.
Carrie Carter-Henderson chaired the event and introduced the evening’s master of ceremonies, entertainer Clint Holmes.
Guests partook of hors d’oeuvres by Capital Grille and wine from Southern Wine &Spirits.

Lions Club event: The Summerlin Lions Club held its 13th annual charity dinner/dance at Emerald at Queensridge. Proceeds from the event will benefit the UMC Lions Burn Center, Sight First II, the Blind Center of Nevada and Leap Alliance, which is lower extremity amputation prevention.
Summerlin’s King Lion Al Van Gordon introduced the event’s co-chairs: Cathy Downey, Judy Leslie and Amanda Downey.
Guests participated in the silent auction and balloon auction. Entertainment was by the Bell Choir from the Blind Center of Nevada, and the Ribbon Dance was performed by the Shirley Chen Dancers.
Emerald at Queensridge’s Executive Chef Daniel Kimble prepared the family-style dinner.
Radio and TV personality Nate Tannenbaum served as master of ceremonies and auctioneer.
The 2014 Summerlin Lions dinner honored Linda Smith, associate executive director of Opportunity Village.
