Our post-racial president

When President Obama weighed in today on the shooting of a teenager by the name of Trayvon Martin in Florida, he made matters worse not better.

The shooting as readers know by now has sparked great racial tension because Martin was black and the killer was a non-black homeowner. So, here we go again with a racially charged case with all the usual national suspects making hay over a tragedy.

If this were a black on black crime, this case wouldn't cause a frenzy. Nothing to see in that case.

But because it was a Hispanic man who shot a black teen, it is the injustice of the day for the Rev. Al Sharpton crowd.

And our president just made it worse when he said at a press conference via a staged question from NBC News that "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

Not helpful. Not necessary and very unpresidential.

As our president, we need Mr. Obama to promote justice for all. To weigh in at this stage with such a racially charged statement as that only makes justice more difficult to attain.

Judgment, not racial politics,Mr. President. Judgment.

PS: Newt Gingrich has it right when he also criticizes the president: “It’s not a question of who that young man looked like. Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe, period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background," Gingrich said. "Is the President suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn’t look like him?"

PPS: Had the president stopped with his statement sympathizing with the parents, all would have been appropriate. But when he injected his skin color into the already red hot race environment, he made an unstable situation dangerous. The Hispanic man involved in the death is now in hiding and black leaders have told the news media he better stay in hiding. This as in most things our president has made a bad situation worse.

PPPS: As more information comes out on the Trayvon Martin shooting, some of it doesn't fit the narrative that Al Sharpton and crew showed us. At the time of the shooting, Martin was suspended from school for 10 days for being in an unauthorized part of campus. The school is mum on the details and a lawyer for the family has sealed Martin's school records. Hummm. Also, the pictures we first saw of Martin showed him as a younger boy. A new picture has surfaced of Martin showing him grown up at 6-foot three-inches tall, wearing a "wife-beater" t-shirt, smiling with gold teeth, and supporting multiple tattoos.

Px4S — Speaking of making the narrative fit, some news outlets such as CNN have now taken to calling the man who killed the teenager a "white hispanic". Apparently he is half white and half hispanic. Will CNN now begin referring to President Obama as "white black". Brother, are we still one messed up country when it comes to issues of race, or what? I thought Barack Obama might help that. He didn't.
