You gotta be kiddin’

According to The Associated Press: "An Indiana court has ruled that a pizza shop must pay for a 340-pound employee's weight-loss surgery to ensure the success of another operation for a back injury he suffered at work."

This case has big ramifications for the business world. And lest you think the employer in this case staked out some kind of Draconian position, think again. The employer agreed to pay for surgery for a back injury that occurred at work. But the employer didn't see why it should be accountable for the employee's weight problem, and resulting weight-loss surgery, which would cost between $20,000 and $25,000.

Courts ruled otherwise. So, chalk up another jackpot in the legal lotto. You gotta be kiddin'.
