Great Atmosphere

It has been a long time since the parking lots at Sam Boyd Stadium were as alive as they were tonight.

Part of that has to do with the fact that UNR is in town.

But clearly the bandwagon is starting to fill up. The city is starting to think that the program has turned the corner and is on the path to respectability.

It was a real college football atmosphere, complete with beer pong, the beanbag toss game known as cornholing, and even some bizarre activity known as ladder ball.

The most surprising thing was what was not seen. There didn’t appear to be a whole lot of fighting.

Perhaps the students from both schools are on their best behavior. Or maybe they are just waiting for the game to start to let the fists fly. Only time will tell.

Off to a good start

Stephanie Calvert belted out a very solid national anthem during the pre-game festivities.

It was particularly remarkable after the butchered instrumental version fans were treated to before the Iowa State game.

For close followers of UNLV sports who might be wondering, Calvert is not related to longtime Thomas & Mack public address announcer Dick Calvert.

Disappointing crowd?

As alive as the tailgating areas were, there are still plenty of empty seats inside Sam Boyd Stadium.

Perhaps some people are still outside enjoying the festivities.
That being said, it’s still already the biggest crowd of the year.
The game has just kicked off, so there is still time to fill in the empty areas.
