Restaurants & Institutions magazine released today its list of the 100 top-grossing restaurants in the country, and 24 of them are in Las Vegas (second only to New York with 32, with Las Vegas “continuing to close the gap,” the magazine notes). No. 1 is Tao Asian Bistro at The Venetian, with $66.6 million in 2007 food-and-beverage sales. R&I notes that Tao's sales increased by $11.3 million over last year in large part because of the addition of Tao Beach. The magazine notes that $11.3 million is the same amount of total sales necessary to make this year's list.
Tao's revenues no doubt get a boost from its club venue as well as the beach (No. 2 was Tavern on the Green in New York with $37.6 million in sales, which has 1,500 seats to Tao's 500), but the Las Vegas representatives on the list that are traditional restaurants had respectable showings as well.
