Another year, another poker movie. Last year's "Lucky You" pretty much tapped out, but the blackjack-themed "21" is going great guns, proving there's still a market for gambling movies.
Next at the table: "Deal," which is scheduled to open here April 25. The night before, April 24, the CineVegas film festival will host the "Deal" world premiere at the Palms' Brenden Theatres, with red-carpet arrivals at 7:30 p.m. and an 8:30 p.m. screening, followed by a party at the Palms' Moon nightclub.
Set against the backdrop of high-stakes poker, "Deal" focuses on a legendary retired player (Burt Reynolds) who teams up with a cocky newcomer (Bret Harrison) — until a Las Vegas call girl (Shannon Elizabeth) comes between them, setting the stage for a World Poker Tour championship showdown.
Of the three stars, Elizabeth is the only one currently listed on CineVegas' red-carpet celebrity roster, along with Mimi Rogers, Melissa Rivers, Sharon Lawrence, Efren Ramirez, Vince Vieluf, Joe Hachem, T.G. Sheppard, Kelly Lang, Lorrie Morgan, Brett Davern and Simona Fusco, among others.
