The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two Mother’s Day-themed events for moms and their children.
The Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, is hosting its Mad Hatter Tea Party from 1 to 2:30 p.m. May 9.
Participation is $25 per mother/daughter or mother/son pair. Moms and their kids (ages 4 to 12) can take part in a variety of interactive games and themed crafts. Refreshments also will be served. SCREENING MAMMOGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR REDUCED COST
In honor of women and the celebration of Mother’s in May, the Nevada Cancer Institute is offering reduced-cost $50 screening mammograms to Nevada women over the age of 40 Monday through May 22.
This is a screening mammogram only; the $50 special price is only for cash-pay uninsured patients. Patients with insurance will be billed accordingly. Results will be mailed to the patient and her physician. This special price offer must be paid in full at the time of service and cannot be used in conjunction with any insurance. There are a limited number of appointments at this special price and appointments are required.
Mammography can detect approximately 85 percent of breast cancers and can detect a lump an average of one to three years before a woman can using self breast examinations alone. To schedule an appointment, call 822-5416.
FREE STRATOSPHERE TOWER ADMISSION FOR MOM ON MOTHER’S DAY
The Stratosphere will offer a free ride to the top of its 1,149-foot tower on Sunday for mothers accompanied by one or more people paying the full admission price.
Moms and their guests will also be given VIP treatment, bypassing the line to ride to the 108th floor indoor observation deck. The regular price of admission to the top of the tower is $14.95, discounted to $11 for Nevada residents. Children ages 4 to 12 pay $9.
The Top of the World Restaurant, located on the Stratosphere’s 106th floor, will observe Mother’s Day by giving all moms who dine there on Sunday a free glass of champagne and a rose. The restaurant will be open for brunch from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and for dinner from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 380-7711.
The Stratosphere Tower is the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. The tower’s observation decks, one indoor and another one outdoors, are open from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays, Saturdays and holidays.
