YOUR WEEKEND: Two charity events benefit nonprofits
May 29, 2008 - 8:20 am
Get out this weekend and give at two charity events to raise money for nonprofits.
Children’s Heart Foundation
This weekend, the Children’s Park as Town Square at 6605 Las Vegas Boulevard South has an event that’s either really cheap entertainment or a little pricier charity art, depending on your pocketbook.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 31, there will be face painters, balloon artists, a story teller and a juggler to entertain the kids. Easels will be set up so the kids can show off their art skills. Folks who want to throw a little moola at a worthy charity, the Children’s Heart Foundation, an organization that supports research toward congenital heart disease, can pay $100 to have their kids put their hand prints on tiles to be included in a mural at the park that will be unveiled on June 14.

Best in Show
On June 1, The Orleans Arena is going to the dogs as the Animal Foundation hosts its sixth annual Best in Show event, which will showcase 60 of the shelter’s top adoptable dogs.
Actor, television personality and "Spamalot" star John O’Hurley will serve as master of ceremonies for a parade of the valley’s strays. The canines will strut in front of nationally known American Kennel Club judges. The top dogs will go on to compete for the title of Best in Show 2008.
Following the parade, all of the animals will be up for adoption.
Doors open at noon, and the event will begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and d$5 for kids 2 to 12 and seniors. For more information, call 284-7777 or visit The Orleans Web site here.
