HOW MUCH IS YOUR TIME WORTH?
Would you rather work seven days at $20 per
day or be paid $2 for the first day and have your salary
double every day for a week?
This question came from the Figure This! Math
Challenges for Families from the Learning First Alliance.
National PTA is a member of this alliance, which is a
partner in the National Figure This! campaign to promote
family involvement in middle grade students'
mathematics education.
The answer to the quiz question is in the
February issue of National PTA's magazine, "Our
Children," where the quiz question also appears. To
subscribe to "Our Children," visit
http://www.pta.org/ptastore/magazine.htm and take
advantage of the special subscription offer, which ends
February 29.

MOTIVATE CHILDREN TO DO
THEIR SHARE OF CHORES
Beg, bribe, or threaten, you've tried them all, but
your children still won't do their chores. What else is a
parent to do? Try these four tips to help motivate children
to do their chores.
- Parents must model being responsible by doing housework themselves.
- Parents must have a caring relationship with each child in the family.
- The culture in the home must be cooperative. Do you do things together? Do you help each other?
- Parents must see chores as an opportunity to teach their children both important life skills and values.
These tips were excerpted from an article
"Winning the War on Chores" in the December
1999/January 2000 issue of "Our Children" magazine.
Jason Project . . .
The Cheyenne Community College invites the
public to broadcast Monday, February 28, through Friday
March 3, at 7 am only. There will be five broadcast open

am, 11:30 am, and 1 pm.
General Meeting . . .
April Barr educated parents on the Terra Nova
testing results at our February general meeting. Terra
Nova tests are given to 4th and 8th grade students in our
district. We learned how to read and interpret the scores
and, most importantly, how to help our children improve.
Handouts with great tips, including encouraging students
to write, were available. All those in attendance received
a raffle prize as well. Thanks to all who attended!
