Mabel Hoggard Magnet School September 1999

The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.

HOGGARD IS SPECIAL . . .

As you know, Mabel Hoggard draws students from all over the valley, not just from the local neighborhood. This has benefits as well as drawbacks. Neighborhood schools automatically possess a sense of community as the students and their parents all live and often work together in the surrounding neighborhood. Parents and students often share the same social and economic backgrounds. We at Mabel Hoggard enjoy the benefit of a well-diversified student body, but at the expense of losing our sense of community within the school. Hoggard PTSA's goal is to assist in bridging the community with the school. Education is a community effort. School community and education benefit from PTSA membership and involvement.

What is PTSA?

PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. As a member of Hoggard PTSA you are a member of The National PTA, which is the world's largest volunteer organization devoted to the welfare of children and youth. PTSA is the connecting link between the home and school and can be the catalyst for bringing people together to solve problems. PTSA is People Taking Significant Action. Since everyone who works in PTSA is a volunteer, there are no vested interests to be gained -- only better schools and communities.
The primary goal of any PTSA is to aid parents, teachers, and students in the achievement of excellence in education for all young people. Membership dues for Mabel Hoggard PTSA are $5 per person. This amount is divided between the national ($1), state ($2), and council ($.25) levels as well as the school ($1.75). Any individual committed to children and education should belong to a PTA.
REMEMBER: Anyone can and is welcome to join Mabel Hoggard PTSA. Parents, grandparents and other relatives, teachers and students are strongly encouraged to join PTSA, volunteer time whenever possible, and show their support for Mabel Hoggard and its students.
Hoggard PTSA, through our committed volunteers and our association with the National PTA, has the collective strength to get things done. By paying your dues you are adding your name to more than six million names nationally that want issues affecting the welfare, education, and protection of children addressed.
