FESTIVAL IN THE PINES 1997 - DO IT ON THE MOUNTAIN, AGAIN!!

    By Barbara Washington

The Festival In The Pines will be September 6, 1997, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort in Lee Canyon.

Do It On The Mountain, Again!! welcomes Barb Henderson back as our host! She is a terrific person and does so much for the SMA. We want all of our members to come to meet Barb. Our commercial sponsors are the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort and Vasque located at Red Wing Shoes, West Charleston - Home of Hiking Footwear. Both businesses are involved with people participating in the many activities that can be held in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (SMNRA).

This is the period when festival ground work really gets moving! July 11th, over 200 booth solicitation packets were mailed to not-for-profit groups, crafters, artists, commercial enterprises and government departments. If you know of anyone who would like to participate with a booth, please contact us as indicated below. This is a low or no cost opportunity for groups to contact this narrow market segment.

The facilities committee is hard at work gathering all the resources we will need for a successful festival. If you can volunteer some time on the 6th, John O'Donnell and his group will find a perfect task for you!

Raffle tickets are now printed and will sell for $1 each or 6 for $5. The stub is also the Festival entrance ticket. If you have some time to sell tickets or want to buy some, contact the Fitzgibbons. The raffle provides our not-for-profit groups with an opportunity to raise money for themselves. All not-for-profit groups are invited to sell tickets up to September 5th, and the group keeps half of the proceeds and the SMA gets the other half.

Our second site at the Mt. Charleston Alpine Village in Kyle Canyon cannot be included because of construction delays. We hope to join with them in future SMA activities.

Remember that Festival proceeds will be used for SMA-sponsored projects within the SMNRA, including an Interpretive Trail.
