Festival In The Pines 1997 - Do It On The Mountain, Again!!
Charles Washington
The Festival In The Pines is scheduled for September 6, 1997, 10:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m., at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort in Lee Canyon
and the Mt. Charleston Alpine Village in Kyle Canyon. The theme of the
Festival is "Do It On The Mountain, Again!!" Last year's Festival had
2,000 attendees, and we expect double that this year. The SMA wants to
involve people with the many activities that can be held in the Spring
Mountains National Recreation Area (SMNRA). All organizations that sponsor, promote,
advocate, support, or participate in activities that can be performed and/or are conducted in the
SMNRA, or organizations that provide services or recreational equipment to those who do,
outdoor oriented artists and relevant crafters are invited to participate. Some of the known
activities are horse riding, bicycling, photography, volksmarching, rock climbing, hiking, bird
watching, plant identification, snowboarding, Native American rock art location and preservation,
mining, backpacking, outdoor cooking, archery, hunting, fishing, motorcycling, off roading, black
powder shooting, Native American activities, historical research, running, fire prevention, trail
building and maintenance, wildlife identification, and orienteering.
Attendees will be asked for a $1 donation per person, and the donor will receive one raffle ticket.
Festival proceeds will be used for SMA-sponsored projects within the SMNRA, including an
Interpretive Trail.
