Arizona man held in attempted murder of 2-week-old daughter

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Bullhead City, Arizona, man was arrested Monday in the attempted murder of his 2-week-old daughter.

Bullhead City police said the investigation began on Aug. 14 when detectives were notified that the baby had been flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of a fractured skull and brain hemorrhaging.

Agency spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said Jeremy William Cowan, 29, and the mother first told detectives the baby fell off the couch. She said the next story was that Cowan accidentally dropped the baby on her head when he tripped.

Fromelt said the baby could have received important care and attention had the head injury been disclosed initially.

“On August 29th police received information that Cowan had been involved in a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend/mother of the child,” Fromelt stated. “It was reported that Cowan had threatened to kill his girlfriend and said that he wished their baby daughter had died.”

Fromelt said another interview with Cowan revealed that he had thrown the infant head-first on the hardwood floor because she was crying.

She said the baby and the mother’s other two young children have been placed in the care of the Department of Child Safety.
