Man shot near Nellis Air Force Base Thursday morning

A man was shot near Nellis Air Force Base early Thursday morning after an attempted robbery, Las Vegas police said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting around 3:30 a.m. near the 4500 block of Las Vegas Blvd. North, Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

Reports indicate a male and female agreed to meet up at an apartement complex in the 4500 block of Las Vegas Blvd. North after a conversation over social media. When the male arrived at the complex, another male suspect attempted to rob him, Meltzer said. In result, the victim shot the robbery suspect, whom police identified as Devennyon Hamler, Meltzer said.

Both Hamler and a female suspect, Jovonna Hollerman, then went to the 5300 block of East Craig Road where they requested medical help, police said. Hamler was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Meltzer said.

After the investigation, both Hamler and Hollerman were arrested. Hamler has been booked in absentia and will be released from the hospital to the Clark County Detention Center, where Hollerman also is being held.
