Downtown Las Vegas to host Chinese New Year in the Desert


Food vendors will offer Chinese specialties during the Chinese New Year in the Desert festival in downtown Las Vegas this weekend. The festival’s vendor village will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. …

For the Love of Cocktails, co-hosted by Tony Abou-Ganim, author of “The Modern Mixologist,” will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Mix at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. A benefit for the Helen David Relief Fund, which aids those in the beverage industry who are affected by breast cancer, it will include stations with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and live music. The Festival Buffets at the Fiesta Henderson and Fiesta Rancho now offer Italian nights from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, with a made-to-order pasta station and such dishes as stuffed shells, stromboli and Italian rum cake; it’s $13.99. The buffets also are serving Champagne brunch from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends at Henderson and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rancho, and the Henderson buffet offers a Bloody Mary Bar, with drinks ranging from $4 to $7. …
