First Look: ‘Divergent’

What: “Divergent”

Cast: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Cortney, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Tony Goldwyn, Ashley Judd, Mekhi Phifer and Kate Winslet

Writer: Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor

Director: Neil Burger

The story: In the future, citizens are divided into groups based on their personalities. But when Tris Prior (Woodley) learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit into any faction, she uncovers a conspiracy to destroy her and everyone like her.

The buzz: Based on the popularity of Veronica Roth’s book trilogy on which it’s based, box-office pundits are predicting “Divergent” could open in the range of “Twilight’s” $69 million debut weekend. The other two movies in the series, “Insurgent” and “Allegiant,” already have release dates in 2015 and 2016.
