Huntress ready to cast a spell

Their frontwoman is a blond bombshell fond of posing for publicity shots in blood-spattered bikini bottoms.

That such striking, designed-to-titillate visuals don't overshadow Huntress' doom metal alchemy is perhaps the greatest testament to the forcefulness of the band's recently released debut, "Spell Eater."

Singer Jill Janus is former opera prodigy with a four-octave range who hisses and roars over tunes that blend trad metal traditionalism with thrash velocity into a witchy, brutish rumble. Janus may flaunt her curves from time to time, but it's her voice that's truly seductive.
