Poppy Den chef Sosa goes against Flay on ‘Iron Chef America’


Angelo Sosa, chef of Poppy Den at Tivoli Village, 440 S. Rampart Blvd., will challenge Bobby Flay on the Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” at 9 p.m. Sunday. To celebrate, the restaurant will host a viewing party from 8 to 10 p.m. It’s free, but those interested in attending are asked to make reservations by calling 702-907-5227.

Poppy Den also will celebrate National Absinthe Day on Wednesday with Sosa’s signature cocktail, the Absinthe Dream. In addition to absinthe, it contains dark rum, fresh lime juice and grenadine. …

In honor of National Peanut Butter Day Saturday, Trevi at the Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will offer peanut-butter-cup gelato for $4.50. …

As part of the 59th General Assembly of French Master Chefs — Maitres Cuisiners de France — The Venetian will host the open-to-the-public Master Tour de France from 6 to 10 p.m. March 8 in the resort’s Doge’s Palace. The event will showcase 12 chefs, 12 wineries and spirit makers with specialties from France’s various regions. MTO Cafe, 500 S. Main St., which normally serves only breakfast, lunch and brunch, is planning its first pop-up dinner at 5:30 p.m. March 9. The menu, with dishes (an appetizer and entree each) by chefs from five local restaurants, is $55, plus tax and tip. For reservations, call 702-380-8229. …

PBR Rock Bar at the Miracle Mile Shops, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has new happy-hour specials, available from 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays. The small plates such as French bread margherita pizza are $5, with dishes such as Dorito mac ’n’ cheese for $7; drink specials include $5 specialty cocktails, $3 domestic drafts, $5 shots, $19 beer buckets, two-for-one well drinks and half-priced bottles of wine. …
