For the past six years, chef Bernard Tordjman has been presenting his sophisticated California/European menu at Lake Las Vegas. That sophisticated menu is now a little closer to town at his new second location on Sunset Road. Begin with classic onion soup, gazpacho (chilled Spanish tomato soup with vegetables), Dungeness crab cakes, Mediterranean combo (hummus, roasted eggplant, tabouleh) or roasted farm beets with herbed goat cheese. Entree salads include Thai roast beef, Caribbean chicken (apple, mango, celery, walnuts, raisins) and Chinoiserie chicken with Asian vegetables. There are crepes and quiche (Lorraine, Florentine, seafood and artichoke), flatbreads, open-faced French bistro sandwiches such as turkey and Brie, albacore tuna salad, and shrimp and avocado, and other sandwiches including organic curry chicken salad, California club, BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) and Bistro burgers on brioche bun. Among the pasta specialties are spaghetti with meatballs, fettucine Alfredo and spicy penne arrabiata. Several main courses are prime New York steak and frites, Bistro barbecue meatloaf, tandoori chicken and Moroccan chicken breast tagine with artichokes and olives. Be entertained on two special menu nights (in addition to regular menu): Sinatra Tuesdays and Titanic Thursdays, with authentic recreations from the Titanic first-class menu. Dinner entrees begin at $14.50. Bernard’s Bistro is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
