Strip Tips: Spotlight on books turned into movies


Bauman Rare Books at the Shoppes in the Palazzo is hosting a free exhibit called “Before They Were Movies.” Books that inspired movies will be the focus.

The display showcases a collection of first editions and galley proofs, including a first edition of “To Kill a Mockingbird” priced at $23,000. A signed first edition of Stephen King’s “Carrie” will also be on display as will the galley proofs of Larry McMurtry’s “Terms of Endearment.”

You can also see a signed first printing of “Gone With the Wind.” If you have $20,000, you can buy it. Works by Jack London, William Faulkner will also be part of the exhibit that runs through Aug. 31.

Beer Day

Celebrate International Beer Day on Friday at Ri Ra in Mandalay Bay.

The Irish pub will host a tweet-up from 6 to 8 p.m. Get a free pint of Guinness and snack on free appetizers. Be among the first 15 people to check in and get a free beer flight. There will be prizes raffled off, too.

Meet boxing great Mike Tyson Friday at TRISTAR Sports Memorabilia at Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood Resort.
