Strip Tips: UFC, shoe shines, grilling, gay pride

If you're in the volunteering mood, "CSI: The Experience" at MGM Grand may reward this week. If not, there are some fun, free or inexpensive things to check out.

Meet and greet

If you're still smarting over the cancellation of the UFC 151 fight, come tell Randy "The Natural" Couture how you feel. The five-time mixed martial arts world champion will be meeting and greeting fans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday inside the Las Vegas Fight Shop at Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood Resort. He's signing autographs free of charge. Maybe you can talk him into a little sparring match right there, you know, to take out your frustrations. On second thought, no. Don't do that. Just shake his hand and get his autograph. He is the definition of "badass." For information, call 702-366-0502.

Shiny, happy deal

Gino Alexander, founder of Jackpot Shoe Shine in the Stratosphere, is offering discounts on his shoeshine Glow Shine. From 2 to 10 p.m. every Friday, stop by his stand, next to the NASCAR race car by the ticketing booth, and get your shoes shined for half price, $3 for shoes, $4 for boots and $4.50 for two-tone shoes. This is no ordinary shine, Alexander says. He adds his personal touch, fire, to give shoes an extra glow.

Taking it outside

Comme Ca in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is grilling on the patio in honor of Labor Day. From 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, watch the chefs work the grill at Le Barbecue. They're grilling leg of lamb, skirt steak, beer-can chicken and more. For $49, enjoy unlimited side dishes, too, including steak tartare, mashed potatoes and shrimp cocktail. Get unlimited Prohibition Punch for $25, too.

How cool

Pinkberry, the famous frozen yogurt store, opened its first local store on the Strip Thursday. It's at Crystals in CityCenter.

Join the parade

"CSI: The Experience" is looking for volunteers. About 30, to be exact. The MGM Grand attraction is participating in the Las Vegas Gay Pride Parade on Sept. 7. They need volunteers to walk in the parade, representing "CSI: The Experience." In return, you get a complimentary ticket to the attraction. To sign up, send your full name, the number of volunteers you have, your phone number and Twitter handle to ab@emsexhibits.com. Do this by Saturday. Volunteers will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
