When the Riviera opened in 1955, not only was it the first high-rise (nine stories), but it also broke from the city's predominant dude-ranch architecture. It has been popular with filmmakers. The 1961 classic "Oceans 11" was shot here, as was Martin Scorsese's 1994 "Casino."
