Although I hate the show, as I do most shows on television these days, I guess I should tell you that Deal or No Deal will be casting for future shows at the Las Vegas Hilton (in the convention area-just follow the signs) June 3-4 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). So if you feel you can be just as greedy as the people who participate in this show, give it a shot.
HERE COMES MIMI
Just got word that Mariah Carey, who is touring for the first time in three years, will bring The Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour to the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday, Sept. 30. Tickets priced at $175, $125, $65 and $19.50, not including applicable service charges or taxes, go on sale Friday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office. You can also get them by calling Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000 or going to www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket sales are limited to eight per person, so you scalpers better use some pseudonyms.
ELECTRA-FYING POKER
Buncha celebs expected to attend Carmen Electra's Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament and Auction at the Hard Rock to Benefit Head To Hollywood this Saturday (June 3). Carmen, of course, will host the event and David Spade, Randy Jackson, Elisha Cuthbert, Krista Allen, Danny Masterson, Jeremy Piven, Brittany Daniel and Jennifer Love are just a few of the celebs expected to attend.
The tournament kicks off at 12:30 p.m. and goes to 6 p.m. and Carmen will hold an autograph session from 4-5 p.m. Electra is co-founder of Head to Hollywood, a
non-profit program of the Pituitary Network Association that provides brain tumor survivors and their families a celebrity VIP experience in Hollywood. To reserve a seat at the tournament, call Mark Chinapen at 310-559-6449.
BUCK WILD WASHES
Another fundraiser will take place this Saturday at Terrible's Full Service Carwash at 6030 Centennial Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where the cast of the Sahara's Buck Wild! show will host a charity car wash to benefit the Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary. The Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary rescues abused, unwanted, neglected and slaughter bound horses of all types. They attend slaughter auctions and rescue horses from the killer buyers, bring the horses home to Shiloh Ranch, rehabilitate and adopt them out to new homes. Shiloh also takes horses from the Clark County Animal Control that have been
confiscated from their owners due to abuse and neglect. They rehabilitate these horses and find suitable and safe homes.
NEVADA GIVES
And speaking of giving, NevadaGives, an initiative of the Business Community Investment Council and the Nevada Community Foundation, has developed a "one-stop shopping" website for philanthropy in Southern Nevada. The website, www.NevadaGives.org, was developed to provide information and resources to the community at large.
"This website is the key to increasing philanthropy in Southern Nevada," said Robyn Clayton, co-chair of NevadaGives. Features of the Web site include a giving guide, information on business giving, ideas for families, seniors and youth philanthropy, and stories on the impact of giving by organizations. Also spotlighted on the site is an event calendar that lists non-profit functions around Southern Nevada. The NevadaGives Web site will, on an ongoing basis, provide updated information on many aspects of charitable giving. I think it's a great idea and hopefully will stir us all on being more charitable.
STRIP DEVELOPMENTS
I've been trying to keep you informed as to all the changes taking place on the Strip and elsewhere in our town, but I'm sure you're wondering whatever became of the plans to build a San Francisco-themed megaresort on the New Frontier site. Well, owner Phil Ruffin has scrapped that idea and will now implode his resort to make way for Montreaux, named after the Swiss town that is home to one of the world's most famous annual jazz festivals.
Ruffin is planning to break ground next year and open his new hotel-casino by 2010. He also would like to bring the jazz festival to the new 2,750-room resort, which, I'm told, will be targeted to higher-end players. An observation wheel, modeled after the London Eye, and rising 450 feet above the Strip, would be located in front of the property. The reason for the delay has been rising construction costs and a small labor pool caused by the construction of MGM Mirage's Project CityCenter and Boyd Gaming's Echelon (replacing the Stardust). Ruffin is partners with Donald Trump in the condo tower being built on the New Frontier property, but Trump will not be involved in the new project, which is expected to cost around $2 billion.
Okay, I think that's enough information for one day, plus I have a headache, so I'm going to wrap up with a letter from Andy and Marilyn Mulrain of Leesburg, FL, who write: "Lenny: Just read your article about The Scintas change of venue. It will be The Rio's loss. You steered us onto their great show about 2 years ago, & we completely agree, one of the outstanding Vegas shows. We're sure that they will continue to give great performances. Incidentally, we each received the coveted "I stood up for skeeter on my peter" T shirts. Again, Lenny please keep writing such interesting columns." Thanks guys, and I hope your great state has a hurricane-free season this year.
Good luck and I'll see you on the Strip. And don't forget to check out www.valleyblogs.com
