Buncha stuff to tell you about this week and I want to do it quick so I can get outside and enjoy what the weather people are telling us is going to be the last warm day for a while. We've been enjoying 60-plus weather the past week, but beginning tomorrow, I'm told we will be experiencing the coldest weather Las Vegas has had in the past few years, reaching only the low 40s as a daytime high. Brrrrrr!!!
One way you can warm up is to laugh your butt off at the comedy of George Wallace, who performs at the Las Vegas Flamingo in what many call the "best 10 p.m. show" in town. Now having performed three years at the venue, Wallace is saying thanks by offering tickets to locals for only $10, from Jan. 15 thru Feb. 14. Seeing as tickets to his show run from $53 to $64, this is one helluva deal. There is one caveat, however, and that is that this offer is available for the first 100 reservations each night and must be made prior to showtime, so get over there or call and book those seats. It's a great show. By the way, you also have to be 21 or older to get in.
GIRLS OF SINSATION
Next door at the Imperial Palace, the Girls of Sinsation will sign autographs 8 to 10 p.m. today in the poker room. It's all in getting ready for the IP's Sinsation Poker Classic Jan. 26-28, a no-limit Texas Hold'em with a $500 buy-in and a first place prize of $100,000. These gals are hot, guys, so make sure your camera has plenty of film.
JUST FOR MUSIC FANS
Good news for young performers who need exposure. On Jan. 22, University Theatre will open its doors to fans of all ages for a night of acoustic performances by a wide variety of groups. Located on Maryland Parkway, just south of UNLV, University Theatre will provide an intimate, quality venue for those bands to play to 450 of their biggest fans. The theatre also promises to bring in acts from all genres of music including reggae and ska, emo, hardcore, R&B, metal/screamo, rock, pop, punk, indie and everything in between. More than 30 shows are already planned for the first two months of operation, with ticket prices starting at $10 for most shows.
Tickets for the following shows are now available and can be purchased online at www.smashmagazine.com or at any physical Ticketmaster outlet. Here's the sked:

THE SCOOP ON POOP
Hey, all you dog lovers. Here's something you won't wan to miss. The fourth annual meeting of the Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists (aPaws) will be Jan. 12-14 at the Riviera. Pooper scoopers from across the country will take part in activities that include the Turd Herding Contest where pooper scoopers face off to see who is the fastest in the country. You might laugh, but this has a serious purpose as the professional pooper scoopers monitor the health of the animals for whom they scoop.
And you better believe it, there is plenty of poop to scoop. The American Pet Association estimates that there are more than 71 million pet dogs in the United States, producing over 4.4 billion pounds of waste every year, which is enough to cover 900 football fields with 12 inches of dog waste. Talk about deep doo doo. The show is open to the public, starting at 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, and runs through 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 14. On Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m., the organization will make an official presentation of a bullet-proof vest to the Las Vegas Metro Department. The ceremony will be followed by a pooper-scooper competition. See you there and don't forget to bring some plastic bags.
TAX HELP
Just in time. The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites adults to the Doom's Day Tax Preparation Workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 6 to 8 p.m. at Brinley Community School where you will learn basic tax tips and tax preparation. The workshop costs $40 per person and pre-registration is required. Brinley Community School is located at 6150 Smoke Ranch Road. For more information and to register, call (702) 229-2642.
Okay, enough of this. Gotta run.
Good luck and I'll see you on the Strip. And don't forget to check out www.valleyblogs.com.
