I'm Back!

Refreshed and rarin' to go after a trip to Reno

Plus: Wax On, Wax Off; Danza Time!; Doo Wop in the Desert; Sexy Time!; Another Winner

By LEN BUTCHER

Matthew McConaughey is the latest addition to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

Not that I want to take anything away from Las Vegas, but I just got back from spending four days in Reno and I gotta tell ya, I was more than pleasantly surprised. Not by the casinos so much as none of them compare to our joints on the Strip, but the town itself was a delight, with its cooler weather (89 compared to 105 here), lots of lush foliage, a river running through the city littered with small parks along its banks where people were out enjoying themselves, kids playing in the water, and guys in waders fly fishing. Like a Norman Rockwell painting. I could easily have stayed there a lot longer, but I knew Nico, my trusty dog, would not be happy, missing his couch and the chicken breast I cook for him to mix in with his dog food.

WAX ON, WAX OFF

So now that I'm back, I guess I have to tell you about some of the stuff going on that might interest you if you're in town or are planning a visit. I'll start off with a new addition to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas that will have women's hearts racing a little faster. It's actor Matthew McConaughey who Madame Tussaud's customers voted as their Sexiest Male Celebrity.

The McConaughey figure is standing in a casual pose with legs crossed and arms folded, wearing a T-shirt and jeans. Keeping in line with the interactive nature of the attraction, guests can touch and be photographed with him. When McConaughey heard of the honor, he said, "I am glad to have stayed in the business long enough to make Madame Tussauds list. But, immortalized in wax, don't light a match."

DANZA TIME!

Good news for us and for The Producers, which has been struggling a bit during its run at Paris Las Vegas. The multi-talented Tony Danza has been signed to reprise his role as the down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock. "I am thrilled that Tony has decided to play Max in the Las Vegas production. He's a Vegas guy and just belongs there," said Mel Brooks. "He will take over and set Vegas on its ear. His moves are so clean and neat and his voice is so fabulous. I think he's gonna shake things up and make for a hard ticket to get!"

Danza adds, "I loved doing The Producers on Broadway and I can't wait to do it again...AND in Vegas. WOW! "

DOO WOP IN THE DESERT

Hey, here's something that sounds like fun and that I will very definitely try to attend. DooWop In The Desert is an organization made up of fans of Rock 'n' Roll music focusing on the years between 1954 and 1963 which many experts agree encompasses the glory days of what we now call "DooWop" or "Street Corner Harmony." To celebrate, the group is presenting an evening of listening and dancing this Saturday, June 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Italian American Club located at 2333 E. Sahara Ave. The scheduled line-up includes Vicky Tafoya, Stevie Dunham & The Emerald Dreams, Goodfellas, Richie D & The Hi-Lites, Music by The Rockets, with Master of Ceremony, Tony Sacca. Tickets are $25 per person on a first come, first served basis.

SEXY TIME!

Here's something for both the gals and the guys. Frederick's of Hollywood will open its doors July 5 in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. To celebrate the opening, Frederick's will host a grand opening event Thursday, July 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be open to the public. You will be able to sip on complimentary champagne while listening to DJ Mike spin groovy tunes. You will also get a 20% discount off everything in the store during the event, as well as receive a free Frederick's Bridget Panty just for stopping by.

One of the world's hottest models, Joanna Krupa, will attend the store's opening party to meet with visitors, as well as to sign copies of the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog where she has appeared on the cover a number of times. In 2005, Playboy named Krupa the "sexiest swimsuit model in the world," and most recently in 2007 listed her as one of the 25 "sexiest celebrities in the world". Recently, she appeared on NBC's hit show, Las Vegas, with James Caan and Alec Baldwin.

For nearly 60 years, Frederick's of Hollywood has been the leader in pioneering innovative, alluring lingerie. Every time a woman in America puts on a piece of black lingerie, a push-up bra or a thong, she has Frederick's to thank. And so do we guys.

ANOTHER WINNER

I don't know why I torture myself, but when I come across a big winner, it seems I just have to pass it along, I guess to let you know that, yes, someone actually does hit a jackpot in Las Vegas. I know it's hard to believe, but true. This time it happened at the Las Vegas Hilton when a player, who remained anonymous, won $2,041,324 on a POWERBALL® IT'S AMERICA'S GAME® slot machine after wagering approximately $120 at the 2¢ denominated, five-reel video game, before hitting the jackpot. Good for him, or her, and I'm sure, like every other big winner, I won't be getting a donation to the Lenny Early Retirement Fund. Cheapskates!

Good luck and I'll see you on the Strip. And don't forget to check out www.valleyblogs.com.
