Talk about setting up someone to fail.
I’m all about letting your kids learn things for themselves, but one dad in New Zealand might have taken it a bit too far.
The “Father of the Year,” as labeled in the YouTube video, sends his little boy down a hill toward a grove of trees.
A couple of things wrong here:
- He sent his son down a hill into a grove of trees.
- His son is not wearing a helmet or the optional elbow and knee pads.
- The boy is riding a balance bike, which means there are no pedals or brakes.
Not fair, Dad, not fair as he declares his son is “off for the big one.”
Credit goes to the child for braving the obvious dangers that laid ahead of him and for dodging the first line of trees, but that second wave of trees is just too much. The poor boy goes face-first into the tree, but amazingly stayed on his feet and walked away.
I imagine he has some scrapes and some tears and a shattered ego and some anger toward his dad, but let’s hope this actually turns into a learning experience and doesn’t scar him for life … literally and figuratively.
