BRIGHTON HANDBAG TRADE-IN EVENT TO BENEFIT DRESS FOR SUCCESS

The fifth annual Brighton Collectibles Handbag Trade-In event to benefit Dress for Success Southern Nevada is planned from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 17 at the Brighton Collectibles store at The District at Green Valley Ranch. The nonprofit provides professional clothing and accessories, including handbags, to disadvantaged women seeking to gain employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency. During the trade-in event, used or new handbags of any brand can be donated at any of the 10 Brighton Collectibles stores in the Las Vegas Valley. Anyone who brings in a donation will receive an offer for the purchase of a new Brighton handbag: $25 off handbags between $100 to $150 and/or $50 off handbags $150 or more. At the end of the trade-in period, Brighton Collectibles gathers all of the donated handbags from each location and cleans and refurbishes them before delivering them to Dress for Success Southern Nevada.

HENDERSON POLICE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CITIZENS’ ACADEMY

The Henderson Police Department is set to accept applications for the Citizens’ Academy through July 17.

The 13-week academy meets from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays between Aug. 25 and Nov. 17. The goal of the academy is to build a bridge between residents and the police department using a condensed version of the actual police academy.

Applicants must live or work in the city of Henderson, be at least 18 years old and have no felony, gross misdemeanor or misdemeanor convictions.

Applications can be picked up at the East Police Station, 223 Lead St., or downloaded at cityofhenderson.com.

MILITARY RECOGNITION BANNER PROGRAM OFFERS APPLICATIONS THROUGH OCT. 1

The city of Henderson is offering applications for its Military Recognition Banner Program through Oct. 1.

The street banners are set to display the names, ranks and photographs of active military members starting around Nov. 11. They will be displayed for one year.

Honorees must be a Henderson resident or an immediate family member of a Henderson resident and an active-duty member in good standing. Residents, businesses and organizations may nominate an honoree and sponsor a banner for $150.

All service members are set to be honored at a ceremony hosted by the city of Henderson once the display period is complete.
